Council president Paul Krekorian inspects new downtown Metro station.

Council President Paul Krekorian, a Metro Board member, joined fellow Board members for a tour of Metro’s long-awaited Regional Connector before it opened to the public on June 16.

The 1.9 miles of new track will allow light rail trains to travel between Union Station and the 7th Street/Metro Center Station, merging the L (Gold) line with the A (Blue) and E (Expo) lines.

Merging the lines allows riders to make seamless, one-seat journeys from Azusa to Long Beach and from East L.A. to Santa Monica without changing trains.

The Regional Connector includes three new underground stations:

  • Little Tokyo/Arts District
  • Historic Broadway
  • Grand Avenue Arts/Bunker Hill Station

These stations give riders easy access to historical and cultural attractions such as the Japanese American National Museum, the Broadway Theater District, the Music Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Broad Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
