Posted on 03/09/2024

LOS ANGELES - Having completed their study tour of preparations for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, three members of the Los Angeles City Council's Ad Hoc Committee on the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games will continue their study in Japan from March 10 to 13.

Council President Paul Krekorian, Committee Chair Traci Park, and Committee Vice Chair Katy Yaroslavsky will travel to Tokyo and to L.A.’s Sister City, Nagoya, to learn from the experience of government and business leaders who oversaw the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which took place at the height of the COVD-19 pandemic.

The Councilmembers will learn about many aspects of the 2020 experience, including public health measures, and what use the cities of Tokyo and Nagoya have since made of facilities built for the 2020 games.

Councilmember Krekorian has been a member of the Olympics Committee since its inception, and has made it his priority to ensure that the games are a net economic gain for the City.
