While the everyday work of cleaning the streets and sidewalks of Los Angeles is carried out by the Bureau of Sanitation (LASAN), here in Council District 2 we contract for additional neighborhood services performed by the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC).
In District 2 alone, young Corps members working with LASAN’s Clean & Green program have cleaned up dozens of alleys and over 100 storm drains, trimmed hundreds of trees, picked up 655 illegally dumped items, removed thousands of bags of litter, collected 145,000 bags of trash, removed 181,545 square feet of weeds and maintained 285,957 linear feet of public land.
LACC puts young people to work alongside City agencies, to improve the quality of life throughout Los Angeles. Corps members not only find a first job in the LACC, they can receive supportive services, including assistance with food, housing and transportation. They can also learn valuable life skills, including health and workplace practices and financial literacy.
