The 2020 Olympic Games, held in Tokyo, Japan, faced many unique challenges, not least the global pandemic of COVID-19. Council President Krekorian, along with Councilmembers Traci Park and Katy Yaroslavsky, (Chair and Vice Chair respectively of the Council’s Ad Hoc Committee on the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games) were in Japan this week, studying the lessons of the 2020 Games.

The Los Angeles delegation met with the leadership of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, members of the upper house of the Japanese parliament, and the Minister of Foreign Affair, and with the Mayor and Council of our Sister City, Nagoya. Adaptive reuse of facilities built for the Olympics has been a major focus of the talks.
