Los Angeles City Council President Congratulates SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP

LOS ANGELES (November 8, 2023) - Los Angeles City Council President Paul Krekorian has released the following statement concerning the resolution of the contract dispute between SAG/AFTRA and the AMPTP:

“I congratulate the leadership of SAG/AFTRA and the AMPTP for resolving their differences and coming to an agreement.

“New technology has transformed many industries and the time had clearly come for the terms of employment in this industry to reflect the new reality. The motion picture and television industry is not only a driver of our local economy, it is a laboratory of technological innovation, a forum for public dialogue, and the face America shows the world. As we are seeing in many industries, new conditions call for a new compact between employers and employees; I am proud that Southern California’s legacy industry, once again, is showing our country the way forward.

“When I first entered public service, runaway production was killing California jobs. In the State Assembly I led the fight to secure the Film and Television Production Tax Credit that has kept good-paying entertainment industry jobs in our state. Failure to reach a settlement would have endangered the gains that so many in the industry and in government fought so hard for. I am thrilled that the parties have reached an agreement that will preserve those gains.”
